A letter from our president.

Spartans,

I hope this email finds you well, healthy, and hopeful. I write this email to give you the best and most accurate update to the upcoming 2020 football season for the Gold Coast Youth Football League (GCYFL).  I can only speak to the discussions that have been had within the leadership meetings of the Gold Coast Youth Football League.  I will start with the fact that so much is unknown about the future at this time and how long the stay at home orders will proceed for.  The really good news is that the leadership of the GCYFL is hopeful and dedicated to a 2020 youth football season.  The GCYFL has instructed all of its member organizations to proceed and plan as if the 2020 football season will happen on its regularly scheduled timeline.  As it stands today official practices are scheduled to start on July 13th, Certification will be on August 8th, Scrimmage Jamboree will be on August 15th, and week one of games will be on August 29th.  The season is set to conclude between October 25 & November 22, depending on playoff success and all star selection.  The GCYFL has also had discussions in preparation for extended stay at home orders.  These discussions have included but are not limited to the following: a shortened summer practice schedule, a delayed full season of football that goes into and through November and possibly early December, a shortened season of football, and other alternatives.  The Saugus Spartan Youth Football Executive Board is doing everything possible to ensure a positive and uplifting 2020 youth football season. We continue to hold our monthly meetings and make preparations for a regular timeline but will be ready to adjust and adapt if necessary. According to the state's website on COVID19(https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-except-for-essential-needs/#outdoor), it is ok to go outside to an open park and exercise, as long as you practice social distancing.  Of course if you are sick or showing symptoms of being sick, then you should take care of yourself and stay home.  As we move into the month of May, We are encouraging our Saugus Spartans to take advantage of the great weather and this ability to exercise at open parks.  Staying healthy and in shape is an important part of preparation for football.  While we wait for the official practice start date, please begin to prepare for the upcoming season.  This has been a hard time for all of us Spartans, some more than others, and we want you to know that we are still here.  We are getting ready to have the best season of football ever.

Go Spartans!!!!
